The Strypes

Post by MuleSkinner »

Last week, I was watching Dave Grohl guest host on Chelsea Lately, and Elton John was the invited guest. He mentoned a band from Ireland called "The Stripes". He said they were 15 and 16 year old kids from Ireland who were playing some serious music that no one else was doing right now. He recently signed them to his new management firm, and they also signed a 5 album deal with Universal shortly after. I had to chek them out. I searched everywhere online for "The Stripes" and couldn't find anything. I wasn't sure what the deal was, then my girlfriend suggested adding a Y instead of the I. There they were! Some amazing music from these lads!

I started searching around, and found they released a 7" EP on Heavy Soul UK Records, but it was sold out. Turns out it was sold out everywhere. You can hear the 7" here

They sound awesome.
Solid musicians and the singer's got a great voice.
Bought tickets last week for the small room at the Paradiso with a capacity of 200 max.
Will take my son, should be a blast.
I'd like to sleep 100 days, my feeling has gone, flesh cold and numb.

Wow! Love that first song and video. Excited to see what comes their way.

That first song is an old cover. Sure you knew that, but, it's just the way you said it.

These guys sound great but they need to start writing their own stuff. My friend went to see them play recently and he said the whole set was covers

I did, but I liked the video quite a bit too, and their cover of the song. Sounds pretty good for some teenagers.

From what I understand, they have 2 original songs right now (the second video is one of them), and are expecting to release another single in March or April, and a full album of covers and orginals later this spring or summer.

Not that I am comparing them, but the Stones and the Beatles started out he same way.

Very true but those were simpler times. Anyway glad to hear they're starting to write their own songs

Damn. After shipping and converting pounds to US dollars, it's $35 for that 7". Wish I could justify that, these guys sound great!
