Subpop Records

Post by Kaber »

In light of the recent Vault announcement and the fact we have a few Sub Pop experts on here
thought it was high time for a thread on this label.

A few questions for the sub pop experts:

Other than the White stripes 7 what would folks say are the best releases over the years ,
not necessarily in collectibility terms / price but in enjoyment factors.

Also something bugging me for a while was
have i got the best sounding Nirvana Nevermind pressing.
Mine is a german one which I'm told was the one
to get a few years ago - is this true?

Best Nevermind is the Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs US pressing. 200 grams of virgin vinyl. Simply vinyl press is good also.
I got that deep into variants once before with a collection, please shoot me if I go there again, it will drive you crazy I promise...
But nice stuff for sure.

Best. Discog. Ever!
As far as Kaber's question about what to listen to, I really love the early stuff - most of the early singles club releases are superb.
Dear NSA, I hope that you enjoy this post.

MFSL is the best and most money, not much of a chance for a SS under 300, a close second ,IMO is UIJY-9009 200gr.Universal Japan pressing 2008. I have spare SS of this F/T if interested.......

I agree with the answers so far MFSL, simply vinyl & Jap re-issues (in that order).

When you say about the German pressing, I think that could be said of the In Utero record (Albini masters).

So many good Sub Pop singles, a lot of crap too.

SP96 is one of my all time faves, not the one of the single release, but "annoyingly" labeled as the same # of one of the club singles. So i am referring to the Rev. Horton Heat, black an white "checkered", 10"

It's smokin!

Not that anyone needs another timesuck, but John Pette has started a much needed Sub Pop forum to add to his amazing discography. CHeck it out if you are so inclined.

Saw this posted over on the PJ forum and thought it was pretty cool. It's a hotel in Seattle that has an entire floor dedicated to Sub Pop themed rooms. Sounds like some pretty cool decorations, especially as far as hotels go, and you can never go wrong by putting a turntable in the room.
