Re: Jack White release week Los Angeles (3 dates)
just watched the whole show... was a very odd low energy vibe... long transitions between a few songs... they all seemed a bit tired... was very laid back...
weird how he bailed on Top Yourself, then came back to it after We're Going To Be Friends... also bailed on Steady As She Goes...
was cool to watch at home, but glad the show I got to see was a super high energy melt your face off from start to finish kinda show...
I did love this version of Icky Thump, and was cool how he worked Hank's Ramblin' Man into You've Got Her In Your Pocket...

Is it me or on both the 2 hour L.A. show last night on NPR
and also the EPIC Governor's Ball 1.5 hour show in New York,
Jack did not perform 1 single Dead Weather song?
That's 2 shows on the longer side than he ususally plays.
4.5 hours of music without a set-list, yet a single Dead Weather song
did not ever come to Jack's mind to play in the 2 biggest markets in the USA.
Does that say something about how Jack feels about the Dead Weather material?
Did he play any Dead Weather anywhere else?
I can't remember a Blunderbuss show where he did not play at least 1 Dead Weather song.

I heard them play Cut Like A Buffalo during sound check at Shreveport and he played it in the set in Houston at the festival there...

This makes me hopeful for a dead weather tour in the next two years. Maybe he is trying to give the material a rest, so people haven't heard it live for a long time when dead weather starts to tour in 2015?? Maybe...

Fonda show was great. I felt the audience was a bit quiet but it was a small venue. And it's hard to tell with ear plugs in. I was dressed as hunter s. thompson if you were there. I kinda stuck out. I thought jack and the band did an amazing job. Loved "I fought piranhas" and "icky thump". Had a great time.
ISO: money to buy more records.

I was there too. It was pretty high energy where I was. I got up to the rail, kind of between Daru's drums and Jack's mic stand. It was a really good vantage point, that's for sure. It was my first Jack White show, I definitely don't have any complaints. Except for maybe that I forgot to wear ear plugs and now my ears are still ringing. And also I haven't slept since I had to catch a 6:50am flight home and come straight to work.Grandpadan wrote:Fonda show was great. I felt the audience was a bit quiet but it was a small venue. I was there!! I was at the very front near stage and I didn't notice any low energy. I've seem Jack White many times and he seemed to be in a great mood and digging the crowd and vibing with us. Probably one of the best of his shows I've seen! Really enjoyed the music and venue.

He played a short sound check of blue blood blues in Charlotte. It is bound to happen sometime during this tour. But maybe he isn't playing DW songs because of the new album and what not that may be behind the scenes already done and ready to go.KNARF wrote:Is it me or on both the 2 hour L.A. show last night on NPR

Re: Jack White release week Los Angeles (3 dates)
yeah when I said low energy I meant from Jack and the band, not so much the crowd... was kinda hard to judge the crowd from the video... at the show I saw he was jumping around the whole time, standing up on things, no time between songs and everything was hard rocking, even Top Yourself sounded close to heavy metal... but I did like this laid back show a lot... hope he streams another show!jbdamned wrote:I was there!! Maybe he's giving it a rest because Dead Weather material pales in comparison to White Stripes, Raconteurs & Solo material.3rdmwsiy wrote:Maybe he is trying to give the material a rest, so people haven't heard it live for a long time when dead weather starts to tour in 2015?? Maybe...
It's just interesting to me that in the biggest markets he left out Dead Weather completely.
He's promoting a new album. You gotta bring your best. Not putting down DW.
That material is just not "showcase" material.

oh i see what you mean. yes, my friends and I speculated he was a bit drunk (i.e he came out with a foaming champagne botle and drank from it all night; fell on the drums; was happy; etc) probably celebratory, afterall, release day!yeah when I said low energy I meant from Jack and the band, not so much the crowd...

I understand this in an album sense but the DW songs he played during the Blunderbuss tour were fantastic. Saw two shows, Buzzards toward the front end of the tour and The Peacocks near the end, DW songs were epic! They have a groove to them that WS, Racs and solo stuff that stands out during a live set.KNARF wrote:Maybe he's giving it a rest because Dead Weather material pales in comparison to White Stripes, Raconteurs & Solo material.3rdmwsiy wrote:Maybe he is trying to give the material a rest, so people haven't heard it live for a long time when dead weather starts to tour in 2015?? I also thought last nights energy wasn't the best I've seen out of Jack. Can't put my finger on why. I felt some of the guitar work he did wasn't up to par. There were a few strange pauses between songs. And ditching Steady As She Goes after nearly a 2 minutes intro was strange.

The best dead weather tracks such as iclab
are written by Jack - don't think they are substandard
At all.
Funnily enough I thought the first half of the Lazaretto track
is a bit Dead Weather ish
