Ymagirl was relating to you about a similar (unspecified) experience. That's where the girl comment came from. No one was intending to call you one for hurt feelings. But, imho, I wouldn't drop your vault sub(s) as mentioned. You do care enough to have feelings about it, hurt as they seem at the moment.

Probably just caught him at the wrong time. Also, you can't even say for sure what led to you having to leave. It may not have had anything to do with Jack. I met Jack after a Racs show in Nashville once. Waited outside for the band to come out. As they all came out they walked over and signed some stuff. There were a total of 5 of us waiting. It was pretty late after the show so most people had moved on at this point. The last one to come out was Jack, of course, and he walked straight to his black Mercedes, gave us a wave, and climbed in the backseat. We waved back and proceeded to walk away when the car backed up and the window came down. He stuck his hand out and waved us over. We each got a signature and then he took off. He was very kind and appreciative of our fandom.

Good question. I'm gonna guess that Jack's not the one carrying a grudge over this.

And I'm going to say this again too, even though I have no idea whether it had anything to do with the reason why this fan was suddenly escorted off by the security guards without explanation: IF you're going to ask a celebrity for an autograph, you should already have the pen out, and have the item to be signed already in hand. Don't expect Jack White or any other famous person to stand there waiting while you rifle through a large bag for some concealed object that could be either a pen or a knife or a pistol or a vinyl 45. The guards might have had good reason to escort someone out immediately if they're reaching into a large bag while standing a few feet away from Jack White. Just sayin'. Use a little common sense, and realize that celebrities have to be concerned about things that would seem totally alien to the rest of us.

^ Exactly. In that song he spells out just what kinds of risks are involved with fame; especially in the last verse. Even if there is never any real threat, the very possibility of it entails a huge sacrifice in terms of having to worry about it and take precautions. Maybe it was also his way of explaining to his fans that it's not as easy and comfortable as they might imagine, dealing with autograph requests and such.

(Not to belabor the obvious here; but for anyone who hadn't heard that song and who might skip listening to it.)

Yea I usually get my autographs pen in hand before or after a show waiting just like every other fan. In this particular instance, backstage, I didnt think waiving a record and a sharpie in front of Jack's face was the best way to go. I tried to ask politely without him ever even seeing the record. While, I did briefly look through my bag, I really dont think I was escorted out because anyone saw me as a threat. I was escorted out by a single person half my size. Not a security guard, seemed like one of Jack's crew. He didnt make a big deal of it or anything, just said he had to escort me out and I couldn't come back in. I didnt argue, I didnt want to cause a scene.

Perhaps I should have just waived a record in front of him. Like I said, I doubt I'll ever meet him again so him thinking Im cool or nerdy doesnt really matter to me. It would have looked really cool in my house if I could have shown all my friends and said, check out my lightning bolt vinyl I got Jack to sign for me. I brought blunderbuss because that's what I thought he'd most likely want to sign. I was thinking about bringing icky thump mono, the triple decker, the split horehound, WBC on SFTRI, I have plenty of records that would have been awesome. But, that didnt exactly work out.

It's been two weeks and Im STILL taking it like a girl.

No sense in beating yourself up over it, and not much sense in blaming Jack for it either. Like everyone has been saying, there may have been any number of good reasons for the way he reacted - or the way his staff or security guards reacted - that you will just never know. (Even if the good reason was that he was in a bad mood from having a horrible day. We're all prone to that sometimes.) He doesn't know you personally, so there's no reason to take it personally at all. Like someone else said, you could look at the bright side and realize that you had the chance to see a contemporary rock legend doing a live concert, and you got to meet him in person. That's more than 99% of his fans will ever have; so maybe not having an autograph is not really such a big deal in the long run. Just give it some time, and the sting will heal.

__________________________

Add: Also, even if you think that nobody there regarded you as a threat, or even if they were thoroughly searching everyone's bag before allowing anyone backstage, there still might be a standing policy that anyone who does that - reaching into a large bag while talking to Jack White - is escorted out immediately by a guard. Again, I have absolutely no idea if that's the case -- I've never been backstage, never met him, etc. -- but that is often the way that it works with a security detail; and it makes some sense. They reasonably figure that it's better to err on the side of caution, and have a "no-exceptions" rule about it, rather than leaving it up to an individual security person to try and assess the possible risk of any individual incident as it's unfolding, which could take precious time. If they were to try and be more 'fair' about it and judge each situation individually, then that places an undue burden on the security guards to try and assess the threat level on the spot. That's something that is almost impossible for anyone to know or judge, without having the x-ray vision to see through the bag. So that comes with the risk of something dreadful happening; which is why a standing policy of "zero tolerance" for people reaching into large bags or coat pockets can be reasonable. And even if the guy who escorted you out was not very big - that doesn't mean much either, because you don't really know what he might have been packing. I didn't really want to go there, because I have no idea, and maybe it sounds paranoid; so I'm not trying to make a huge issue out of it. Probably it had nothing to do with this episode at all. But it is one more thing to keep in mind on a long list of "possible reasons that might well explain the otherwise inexplicable." That's all.

Yeah, you should totally do that.

Then find a band to perform it with, upload it to youtube, and hope that it goes viral. Then turn up at one of Jack's concerts, and perform the song live - very loudly - on the rooftop of an adjacent parking garage. ( * ) Then head down to Third Man Records along with your whole band -- and hopefully an entourage of your own fans -- and track down Jack White. Tap him briskly over the head with a copy of your new hit song on a vinyl record, and demand that he immediately sign your band to the TMR label. I'm sure that would get you a much better response than the last time. ;-)

(* A little-known band in L.A. actually tried this trick - the loud rooftop music next door to a Jack White show - recently in an attempt to get Jack White's attention.)

Really? That seems quite extreme. No I think I'll just write the song and hope some people like it because its good. It probably wont even be about jack white I think its just a good name for a song. ^^^^^^^that stuff is crazy, that may explain why he thinks his fans are nuts,. i guess i dont blame him

That sounds just like a line from some other song I've heard somewhere... Wait, don't tell me, it's right on the tip of my tongue...

Damn, slipped away. If anyone thinks of it, let me know.

hey jason, remember me? i hung with you and your friend at the mayan, and we sang our hearts out together? that was awesome! obviously jack is unaware that you're the biggest thing in los angeles county! haha, inside joke

anyway, thought i'd throw in my 3 cents here. first of all, no need to lock this thread. remember, if you don't like it, don't use your finger to press that button and read, no one's forcing you, just grumpily move on to the next thread that does please you.

i don't ask for autograph's anymore, just because, personally i think it's silly. the only reason i can see asking for an autograph is to have a reason to talk to a complete stranger whose face and work i am familiar with. i wouldn't try to see any monetary value in it. unless, i ran across marilyn monroe's autograph in a trunk in my grandma's attic, or something. but if i had that personal opportunity to be in the presence of someone i admired, i might say hi, but not ask them for something. anymore. and the pictures, "can i have a picture", to prove that i met this famous person, we didn't actually have a conversation other than, "can i have a picture with you?" i've done that too, but not anymore.

sorry you had that experience, jason. could it be possible, he thought you were someone else? maybe someone who had harassed him in the past? maybe it was your tone, or sense of desperation, sorry. did you say this over people's heads, like hey! me! me! because i can see that feeling a little....ugh, tiresome. jack can't stop people from trying to talk to him on the street, but he can control his own little backstage environment. maybe you didn't adhere to the dress code, who knows.

imagine all the things you can do that he can't do. he can't do anything or go anywhere without being recognized. and it's all his fault......that people can't control themselves, i mean, that he's famous. i'm not saying you were screaming and jumping up and down, but maybe you were! haha jk

most people, when your job is over, and you go to get gas in your car, people aren't approaching you to tell you how awesome of an accountant/mechanic/grocery bagger/librarian/bank teller/etc. you are, or asking you something incredibly inappropriate like if you're effing your coworker, while standing in line at the bank. you are a stranger. not him. he's talked to about his job and his personal life everywhere he goes, wanting from him. wanting a chat, wanting a handshake, wanting him to say hi to the person they're talking to on their cell phones, wanting a picture, wanting an autograph, wanting wanting wanting! he might have felt like he just already gave all of himself to you.

we do love our idols though. i've traveled to nashville 3 times so far, to la and to eugene to see him, so obviously i'm his "biggest fan", haha, jk. i've been in close proximity to jack on several occasions, but ive never asked for anything. i figure, one less person he has to pacify for the day, is a gift he didn't even know i gave him. i did tell him to slow down, once, over my shoulder, as he came barreling into the tmr parking lot. if he had heard me, i'm sure he probably wouldn't have appreciated that either, hahaha. ;)
We are in a world all our own. Nobody understands any of this. I just try not to talk about it too much.

Hey! Hows it goin? Yea I thought the mayan show was the best of the three personally but they were all really good. About my tone of voice? I dunno. I tried to ask politely when he wasnt talking to anyone but who knows. Maybe I did, maybe he was busy, maybe a million things. It happened really fast.

This super long thread has actually made me feel a lot better, most people have been pretty nice, and the few that poked fun at me were not that bad. Im not gonna write a 'i hate jack white' song or do anything mean like that. I was just kinda bummed and thought Id share my story with some people that are as big of fans (or bigger fans) than I.
