Doesn't it say that on the run out groove?

I'm listening + looking right now . . . yes, it does say in the runout of side 3: "Meg told me before the show." But I've always assumed that was Jack's comment written in the runout. In the NYT article, Ben makes it sound as though she only told him and not Jack.

>>"Afterward they had a week of U.S. dates scheduled, followed by a break and more shows in the fall. But before their last show, in Southaven, Miss., Meg came to a decision.
“I mentioned this to Jack years later, and he didn’t know anything about it,” Blackwell told me. “But Meg came up to me and said, ‘This is the last White Stripes show.’ I said, ‘You mean, like, of the tour.’ And she was like: ‘No. I think this is the last show, period.’ ”<<

This has made me start to wonder who's been writing those comments in the run-outs . . .

Blackwell has stated previously that some of the etching phrases are his ideas and some of them are Jacks...

if we were to wager on which run out comments were whose then i would have to put my money on Tom Jones being a Jack comment ... not sure about the Pokey Lafarge recording though... anyone else find this to be a huge bit of interesting powerful enough to send you rummaging your collections just to decide what was written by whom? just a thought really

i also like that an artist like Jack feels comfortable to converse with his collectors and fans at length really... Shane made a good point that he had always had some particular question about when Cash Grab was written and it was answered personally and quite casually in conversation the other night... good stuff really ... just like this massively intricate article that chronicles one of the the most transitional times in the life and career of this guy White :D

I'm willing to bet the more off the wall and seemingly unrelated etchings are Jack's picks and the more relevant and comment type ones are Ben's picks... really, unless they put together a listing of who picked what then you'll probably never know unless they either tell you, or it's alluded to like the 'Meg Told Me' etching is in this article and you're then able to deduce who came up with it...

Y'know, I was at that show, and thinking now about watching it, it seems weirder than ever that one of them knew the whole time that this would be the Stripes' last show and the other one didn't. And the audience of course had no clue.

it does give one cause for pause to stop and wonder at how complicated situations become when people quit really trying to talk to each other

but it happens all the time and even when we talk to each other there is a huge weight of assumption upon the words we speak

i am a fan of active listening which involves repeating elements back that you heard to make sure you heard right

this may not be the first thing on ones mind when you have 10000 fans screaming your name in a colleseum

I agree with Shane, this does make the prospect of a reunion seem a lot more likely. I don't think it will happen for at least 10 years, and I doubt we'll ever get another album, but if Jack misses TWS that bad, surely Meg will give in eventually and do another live show or two. Please, Meg!

I don't think Meg has any interest in reunion shows, unfortunately, and hasn't for a long time. My response was the opposite--although even Jack feels sad about it, time to draw a line under the White Stripes and move on.

As a related point, I'm a huge Zeppelin fan whose reunion fantasy did finally come true thirty years later (barring a couple of short and fairly disastrous get-togethers)--in the recent NME article, Jack said when he was working with Jimmy Page on IMGL, he heard all the people clamoring for another reunion show/tour. "I was like, 'Jesus, is this what I've got to listen to for the next thirty years?" He [Page] said 'Yes, Jack. Yes you do.'"

I just received a copy of this mag in the mail today from an old friend- I love getting things in the mail, especially this. I have 2 points to bring up that i'm sure I'll get attacked for but anyways, here it goes...

It sounded like Meg just burned out and didn't want to be in the limelight anymore. After that stupid fake tape came out- the tour was cancelled shortly after, correct? As such a private person hating to be in the media, I think that stunt simply pushed her over the edge. It would for me at least.

As for the whole monogamy thing...I'm just confused...why does he refer to "his wife" (on at least 2 occasions that I know of) on modlife, post Karen divorce? I never understood how rock stars balance marriage anyways.

Ok...now everyone can tell me to go to the little room or stop questioning personal business, focus on the music, etc... But the article made me question these things...

People honestly DON'T spend hours discussing Jack's personal life at the Little Room, it's no more welcome there than it is here, and in fact gets deleted. (Maybe you're thinking of Candy Cane Children.)

I agree with you about Meg being burned out, by the sound of things.

Yea, I didn't think that about the little room either, but seems like that's the consensus here at times. Never even been on Candy Cane Children... I just like both forums to keep up on new info. Anyways, i really loved this article, especially having a hard copy!

I didn't see any "brief, random mentions of Jack White in the news" kind of thread here, so instead of starting one I figured I might as well tack it on here and bump this thread.

This NY Times survey of trendy eateries might be of interest to fans visiting Nashville:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/20/dinin ... wanted=all

And they briefly mention Jack White:
That makes them grateful for the food and music revolution in their neighborhood, led in no small part by Jack White, formerly of the White Stripes. He records in one of the dozens of studios in the neighborhood. “He’s kind of a god around here,” Mr. Scott said. “Where he goes, the hipsters follow.”

Ironic, that.
