Bands You Wish to open for Jack

Postby Alabama Woody » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:22 am

For me it would have to be:

1 The Kills - Dream Show
2 Bredan Benson - never happen
3 Sea Sick Steve - Awesome
4 Dan Sartain - never happen
5 JTB - very cool
6 The Alabama Shakes

Pokey LaFarge & The South City 3 ... not gonna happen but an outta sight show
Fleet Foxes ... good stuff and a nice compliment
Laura Marling... interesting but a bit of a slow goer for the excitement that Mr. White brings where he goes
Tonos Triad from Indianapolis ... fresh and amazing unknowns playing folk fusion... perfect warm up for the crowd
Faun Fables would be pretty excellent as well for that eclectic feel

you all know that i am biting my lip off not to say Lana Del Rey though... how can i hide it
The clock in the kitchen says 2:55..... And the clock in the kitchen is slow

Think this is totally going to depend on the mood of the new LP.
STOUTR - I want that SSS. What are you ISO?
RSIMMS3 - Cash. World Peace. Atlantis. (in that order)

Yes! The Black Faces would be great, I loved the set at the Belles show.

Black Faces all the way. Though they may overwhelm the show if Jack's new stuff is more laid-back. Black Faces shake the room.

Many good bands mentioned so far. Will be interesting to see how it goes down.

Question: In general, do people think that an opening band should be one that plays music similar to the main band, or is it better to have an opening band that provides some real contrast to the main band?

I don't have a solid opinion on that, and I can see good arguments going either way. Similar music might be a safer choice, in that it has a better chance of appealing more to the core audience of the main band. But then they might not be so hungry for the main act to begin. If it's a very different kind of music, the contrast can help to offset or highlight the distinctive style of the main band, and the diversity of musical styles could keep some fans more engaged with what's going on. All that being said, it's also true that Jack White's musical palette is pretty broad, so he can easily provide his own diversity and contrast; and it's hard to imagine any other band being all that similar to him anyway.

Oh, and bands that should open for Jack White: Maybe Foo Fighters or Black Keys. Or, heck - maybe Radiohead or the Rolling Stones. :D

(Just to clarify, that remark was not serious, although I do like some of those bands. It was just a little joke about how much I would like to see Jack White headlining over every other band out there.)

Why would Dan sartain never happen.

Because Jack pissed off Dan on the WS 07 tour and Dan didn't like how things were done when he did his single at TMR. Dan's not a fan of Jack.

He did? I must have missed that, I've been avoiding his stuff ever since that stupid interview. I thought he was pretty good at the Mississippi 2007 show, too.
