Re: RIP Ikey Owens
Media so quick to say drugs and alcohol, makes me sick. Probably a beer and a joint or two because later on they did say it was marijuana. Now a real report says it was a heart attack. Give the Man some dignity. He has passed. He had a heart attack. God Speed Ikey. Much Love.

Re: RIP Ikey Owens
My brother passed at age 39 of a heart attack and the only drug found in his system was ibuprofen. The coroner determined underlying heart disease that was most likely caused by genetics. Heart attacks in younger people aren't as common as in older people, but they do still happen. All the speculation about what caused his death feels kind of gross. And nothing can take away from the fact that a 38-year-old man dying is just goddamn tragic.

Was sad to see this. Life on the road takes a toll on your body. Just that combined with a little faulty DNA can do a person in way too soon. Looks like Eddie Vedder dedicated Comeback to him at the Memphis show tonight. RIP

So sorry about the loss of this one-of-a-kind talented soul. Couldn't believe it when I heard. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace, dude.

I saw the news a few minutes ago and i'm very sad and shocked. I saw him at Paris during the Jack White show. I loved how he played and how he was on scene. RIP.

Re: RIP Ikey Owens
I feel sad about the news.
I was there at his last two shows. The one in Mexico City, It was awesome. He was so full of energy. Even after an hour delay because of thunderstorm.
And Puebla, Cannot express the energy on that show, Small Venue and him with all the band just giving their all.
The venue was not even full and that is a shame, but they played with the same commitment and energy.
Both times I saw him doing his craft, smiling and sharing his musical gift.
Yes, Mexico can be shady sometimes, but I believe it is really sad that such a talented person left this earth all too soon.
Saw him 2 times playing with Mars Volta and 2 times with Jack.
I can say that I feel honored to have witnessed such a fine artist on stage.
RIP Ikey Owens.

Didn't really know any of his work or who he was until he became apart of Jack White's crew. Any way seemed like a very talented guy. RIP

From TMR:
The coroner has determined that Ikey Owens died from a heart attack the morning of October 14th at approximately 4 am. The only drugs found in his room were a small amount of marijuana.
Ikey, born Isaiah Randolph Owens was a GRAMMY award winning artist best known for his work with Jack White, the Mars Volta, De Facto and Free Moral Agents, among others. He was a beloved member of the music community as well as his hometown of Long Beach, CA.

A heart attack at 38, it's really sad. It should not happen.

Re: RIP Ikey Owens
Pearl Jam paid tribute to Jack White’s keyboardist Ikey Owens at their show last night in Detroit at the Joe Louis Arena. Eddie Vedder mentioned that Jack White, who is a friend of the band and a great songwriter, lost a band member recently, and Eddie knows there is a lot of loss out there from notes sent to the band. “Light Years” was then played as a way to remember those we have lost.
