A technical question:

Why is cutting live to acetate better than recording to tape, mixing over time to make sure everything is perfect, then cutting an acetate from a master tape? TMR haven't explained very well; to me, the worry is that there'd be some minor mixing and mastering errors when done on-the-fly which would result in a less-than-perfect LP.

I think the idea is that the less it is messed around with the closer it is to having the experience of being there.

I don't think it's a question of better, because as has been mentioned, you're stuck with anomalies that exist in the signal chain when recorded. Tape would allow you to fix some things. But tape as a step adds its own signature to the sound. The idea of recording direct to acetate is all about doing it the way it was done a century ago. Better in some ways, worse in others. It's the ultimate in "committing it to 'tape,'" that's for sure.

Every time you convert between mediums you lose a generation in terms of quality. In theory, the less conversions the better the sound. Imagine copying a friends cassette tape who'd already copied theirs from a friend and you'll get the idea.

The kills and shins sound like they have a bad earth somewhere but only noticable when the band is not playing.
Don't believe the 60's was the golden age of pop. You glorify the past when the future dries up.

It's on both? Thought just the shins was affected. How about seasick Steve? I have an attendee copy on the way. Was the hum issue resolved by that one?

Yes on both SSS sounds much better. Does not really effect listening pleasure. I would say it is a bad earth on the lathe itself as it is audible in the run in and run out grooves.

Oh ok, there is a little sound when there is a transition between songs but when they sing it's ok ?
