Record Cases/Boxes/Carriers

Post by Alabama Woody »

You see on that restoration show where they buff out metal like brass, chrome etc. I wonder if that can be done by removing the brackets and lock on these old record boxes? I have a Dremel tool to use might give that a try. Use some compound and the appropriate attachment.

Or maybe the hardware could be replaced? I like the idea of cleaning the original better.

Removing the hardware from most of the cases is difficult since they used rivets to hold the hardware in place. If you don't have a rivet gun or know someone that can reattach the hardware correctly, I would just buff the metal on the box carefully. Use some liquid Bar Keepers Friend, works great as long as you don't leave it on too long and wipe all of it off of the case itself since most of them have a covering similar to wall paper. I took one apart to restore, but I don't know if I'll ever get it back together.

Here's a nice box that might fit in with someone's White Stripes collector focus -

Gorgeous carrier! I really wanted this one, but I wasn't willing to plunk down that kind of change for it. I'll keep looking.

I made this one a couple of years ago, it'll do until they finally release an official one.

^ Those are so fantastic, I want a wall of them!

I'm sure I have posted this at WS before, but I made a 12" record case for my folio:

Wow, that's really nice. Where'd you get it lasercut, online or local? And was expensive to have done?

Great wooden box covered in snake or gator skin. Not sure if skin is real or man made. Still a sweet looking box for $40.00
