Fourth release is out-- Pain, The Board Game. And to accompany it, Pain the Video Game: http://thirdmanrecords.com/news/pain-the-video-game/

I just sat and played the video game for a handful of minutes. Holy crap, how do video game fans stand that sort of music without going nuts? This one needs some good splats or something when you get hurt, like Frogger.

Aaaand, apparently I'm the only person here interested in their fourth release. Maybe this article from Nashville Scene will make a few more people interested, too-- http://www.nashvillescene.com/nashville ... id=6013434

The following comment is in no way me condoning these printers' decision not to print Pain; but Nashville is the undisputed center of religious book publishing in the USA and the clients whom hire these printers are usually highly attuned to what other jobs said printers are doing. One perceived "slip" (however benign) could be financially disastrous in a very competitive business.

Very true. I do wonder if capitalizing on it in such a way through their advertising had any effect on sales of the book. I would have bought it anyway just based on the description of the content, but I'd be curious to know how many people might've bought it for the titillation of it being "unprintable".

replace god with fear
a real religion
wouldn't go down well? (And the language and such, but there's nothing in the book likely to shock any of us, I don't imagine.)
This collection is my favorite so far, although I'm reluctant to express an opinion on poetry until I've processed it for a while--it doesn't work the same way as fiction. But Starkweather's work is very accessible and in many respects immediate, and I suspect he's probably a genius.

Re: Third Man Books
As with any of their releases I am interested, but cannot afford to pre book due to sending fees overseas without a good review or knowing how it really is, so I will do the same that with the Frank Stanford one, wait until they bring it to the UK to have a look and decide.Kali Durga wrote:Aaaand, apparently I'm the only person here interested in their fourth release. By the way, wasn't it you who was asking about Frank Stanford when it was about to be released? Did you finally get it?

Might've been me. I did get the Frank Stanford book. Haven't gotten very deeply into it yet, though, because I also picked up a couple of books about Dylan around the same time. I need to get back to it.

Ok, there's a new post about Third Man Books on the Vault and I can't see what it's about because Vault log in has been broken since yesterday or so. Can anyone else log in and post what the announcement is?

We at Third Man Books http://thirdmanbooks.com/ would like to ask for a little help from our friends, but only if you feel comfortable to do so, of course. Several reviews of Sampson Starkweather’s PAIN: The Board Game http://thirdmanbooks.com/book/pain-the-board-game have been written in journals, blogs, and newspapers. We’ve included a sample below. What we really want, though, is to hear reviews from the people who count— the readers. If you’ve read PAIN, and like the PAIN, could you say a few words at Goodreads https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25074209-pain and/or Amazon http://www.amazon.com/PAIN-Board-Game-S ... 0991336127. Ourselves and Sampson really would appreciate the feedback, I mean, Sampson did include his phone number in the book . . .
