Favorite White Stripes lyrics

Post by mojoryan »

Just as the subject line says. What are some of your favorite WS lyircs?
There are SO many that kick ass, but to keep it simple and kick it off, I'll start by saying Effect & Cause. The behavior descibed is something I see people do CONSTANTLY and it frustrates the hell out of me!
So yeah, that Jack put it to song=awesome.

Go. Have fun.
"I might not be perfect but I'm me to the bone"~ Seasick Steve
...words to live by.
"This steepen guy grinds my gears."~stl_ben
imo, it's all a result of the modern record collectors association with commodity fetishism~dcmak5

You're right, Effect and Cause is great- It really seems to fit today's "blame" culture.

For me it's something off Elephant...
"Waking up for breakfast, Burning matches, Talking quickly, Breaking baubles, Throwing garbage, Drinking soda, Looking happy, Taking pictures- So completely stupid, Just go away" from 'There's No Home For You Here' perhaps.

Either that or 'You've Got Her In Your Pocket', because the song reminds me of something that I went through a few years back.

There's a lot of good ones out there though... it's hard to decide!

Oh man, I could fill this thread up...

One of the first to really hit me when I began getting into the Stripes is a line that's so very simple, and yet still pretty damned profound-- "I'm getting hard on myself, sitting in my easy chair".
"And the message is clear: if we want Jack White as our hero, he will entertain, but not pander. We have to accept all his flaws, whims, caprices and manias as a critical, sometimes uncomfortable, part of the contract."

Well "I Want to Be the Boy to Warm Your Mother's Heart" is my favorite Stripes song, and I love the line:

Because I really don't want her to judge me,
I want her to really know who I am.
Then and only then will she love me,
Well at least that was the plan.
Across the Rio Grand-e-o.....

"I'm sorry to leave you all alone
you're sitting silent by the phone
but we've always known there would come a day"

It's like painting with words, from my favorite white stripes song.

Ah, it's the last verse of that one that gets me--

"The bus is warm and softly lit,
and a hundred people ride on it.
Guess I'm just another runnin' away."
"And the message is clear: if we want Jack White as our hero, he will entertain, but not pander. We have to accept all his flaws, whims, caprices and manias as a critical, sometimes uncomfortable, part of the contract."

Hard to beat:

I'm only waiting for the proper time to tell you
That it's impossible to get along with you
It's hard to look you in the face when we are talking
So it helps to have a mirror in the room
I've not been really looking forward to the performance
But there's my cue and there's a question on your face
Fortunately I have come across an answer
Which is go away, And do not leave a trace
