Have to admit being a dumbo here: I don't understand the cover art. I read somewhere that it's supposed to somehow look/represent an elephant's head, but . . . me no see . . .

In an interview with Q Magazine in 2007, Jack White said, "If you study the picture carefully, Meg and I are elephant ears in a head-on elephant. But it's a side view of an elephant, too, with the tusks leading off either side." He went on to say, "I wanted people to be staring at this album cover and then maybe two years later, having stared at it for the 500th time, to say, 'Hey, it's an elephant!'"

That'd be most helpful. I do "see" the head somewhat; but I also meant all the imagery, what with the cricket bat, the light bulb, Meg's ankle and the rope, the skull . . .

Dunno about the lightbulb and skull, but the cricket bat has always struck me as being a tusk, and the rope on Meg's ankle is like the tail of an elephant.

When you look at it straight on (squinting a bit and using a fair amount of imagination), Jack and Meg form the elephant's "ears". And the cricket bat could be one of its tusks. I've yet to figure out where the trunk is in the straight-on view, though. Unless that's what the bat is for, perhaps.
