WS Reissue LP Downloads question

Post by dreamover »

So I got all the WS reissues when they came out last year, which were advertised as being remastered. Does anyone know if the download code they came with is for remastered MP3's, or is it the same as the original CD?

Actually I couldn't tell the difference in the mp3's from the old CD's. Best way to figure it out would be to use headphones and switch back and forth from the vinyl to the mp3. So, short answer... I don't know.

A similar question was asked regarding the downloads vs. iTunes versions. For that, the answer was the iTunes was the old version that was also available on CD at original release. I don't know that anyone has definatively answer this question regarding downloads vs. CDs. Best suggestion would be to load up a downloaded MP3 from the reissues and a WAV track from the old CDs in an audio editing program to do a general comparison.

i think someone did. Or at least we tried figuring this out back earlier in the year. only problem is, i can't remember where that thread went.
I'm guessing it's buried in the TMR section. i'll have a look later if nobody finds it.

Well, it was discussed in the S/T album thread, but nothing "scientific" there unless you are thinking of a different discussion.

yeah, different discussion but i don't think anything super scientific was done there either. If anything, i think someone was complaining about the quality of the remasters and comparing tracks from the reissue to the originals or something.

This would be back WAY earlier in the year because i remember talking about it around christmas time; which is when i opened up my lp's.

If I remember and have the time in the next few days I'll have a go at a comparison of a track off of S/T.

thanks guys.

i put all the downloads into my itunes as 2010 remaster, but i think there's a good chance they might not be. it makes more sense that they were just remastered for vinyl and not for digital. it's probably the original digital masters, same as the cd.

Depends on which CDs, too. The SFTRI CDs show better mastering under spectral analysis than the later CDs.
