The White Stripes Best of Possibility

Post by wildroses3 »

I posted this in the Little Room so I thought I'd post it here too.

Now that the White Stripes are done making music it seems like the time for a best of compilation. Maybe Jack White wouldn't be interested in it, but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that would. I think they should do a two disc set with 33 songs. I would like to see something like this track listing:

01. Let's Shake Hands
02. Lafayette Blues
03. The Big Three Killed My Baby
04. Jimmy the Exploder
05. Hand Springs
06. Hello Operator
07. Death Letter
08. Why Can't You Be Nicer to Me?
09. Lord, Send Me an Angel
10. Party of Special Things to Do
11. Hotel Yorba
12. Fell in Love with a Girl
13. Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground
14. Stop Breaking Down (BBC Version)
15. We're Going to Be Friends
16. Red Death at 6:14
17. Seven Nation Army
18. Black Math
19. In the Cold, Cold, Night
20. Ball and Biscuit
21. I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
22. The Hardest Button to Button
23. There's No Home for You Here
24. Jolene (Blackpool Version)
25. Blue Orchid
26. Forever for Her (Is Over for Me)
27. My Doorbell
28. The Denial Twist
29. Icky Thump
30. Rag and Bone
31. 300 M.P.H. Torrential Outpour Blues
32. You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do as You're Told)
33. Conquest

What do you think?

I like it and I would buy it, makes a great 3-LP set too!

Maybe cut one or two Elephant songs though, half the album is on there.

3, 11 song lp's one red, one black, and one white sounds like a great thing to me. i would most liekly pick it up especially if it was a TMR deal but i doubt jack would do something anywhere close to a best of comp

I would buy it. I think it would be nice to have especially if it comes in a nice packaging with pictures. Disc one could cover the first three albums and disc two the last three. One disc could have a picture of Meg on it and another Jack. Some people, possibly Jack White included, may be opposed to the idea, but I think there's a group of people at there that would enjoy it.

Especially if there are one or two (or THREE!) unreleased songs and/or alternate versions on there.

not to sound like a jerk-face but why exactly do we want a 'compilation' disk when all of us own all threir albums anyway. My opinion is that if you want your fav 33 songs - make yourself a playlist. Personally I think a compilation would be a tad tacky - but I guess some of us are dying for a new WS release (myself included) - but not a "Best Of"

Don't turn the White Stripes into Aerosmith. One compilation is one too many.

- I've always wanted to see a band release some raw studio footage of them recording the album - like a couple hours of them working in the studio... I've only ever seen 'clips'. Anyone know of any bands that have done this?

When a band is leaving a record company (and especially if they have contract for records that havent been released) then the latter is usually releasing a Best Of record.
Same thing happens with bands that do not exist anymore.
Unless of course the band is the copyright owner or something similar to that (I am not with legal issues). In this case it is up to the band to decide (and I dont think Jack would do it at this point).

Why does everyone keep saying Jack would never do a best of comp? this is the same Jack that releases an annual singles comp through the vault, right?
Hey, it's just a fucking record. Chill.
