I got a tweet from thirdman about this today. Wow. As I'm new I didn't even know these existed.
Yes.

All the interest in the latest HPLB on feebay got me thinking. I remember reading an article just after John Peel died which talked about his enormous record collection and what his children planned to do with it. As I recall, there was talk of a box of ultra-valuable/rare records that he kept to one side and that this included an HPLB given to him during the Peel Acres session. Does anyone know if this is true?
Dear NSA, I hope that you enjoy this post.

Congrats to the seller, more than I thought it would fetch but a fair price I think.

there must have been a bidding war at the very end or possibly someone just set their highest bid and it flatlined with them at that level

absolutely congratulations to the seller in this instance... wow... for that price i would say that she may not be much on looks but she handles the curves fabulous when you take her out for a spin

Last day..
I've been thinking a lot about prices on these lately. I think what we are seeing is the result of five or so of these being "uncovered" in the past two years.
At any given point in time there are about 8-10 or so hard core collectors into them at that level of money and we may have exceeded the demand with the supply.
Since I picked mine up, I think I've seen five surface and be sold.
Now over the long haul, do I think these will hold their value, yep. Just a down economy and larger supply is softening the market right now. And the artwork on this one doesn't help it much either...
Just my $.02 worth.
Grim

I don't think you are right.

You paid $15k+ which was about 4k more than you should, admittedly it hadn't been seen to collectors on ebay or forums since 2001-2004.
One went twice for $15-k$18k+, again, $4k-$8k more than its worth, but got sold on cos the lady buyer got buyers remorse / started a charity?

The ebay price, has never been above $11k-$13k.

And private attempts to sell these at $15.5k to $30k have fallen on deaf ears and eyes.

Says to me, that the market value of these is $10k to $13.5K

any more, is up to the buyer. But they aren't worth more than that.

Mine is worth what I paid for it, $700. I'll sell it for that one day to make a collectors life complete or donate it back to jack and meg.

Jacks appeal will fade, collectors will get older in to their 50's and 60's, the white stripes, raconteurs, dead weather and jack won't remain fashionable. Third Man will fade away over the next few years and decade and the price will settle and drop in to the $4k - $9 mark, same thing happened with nirvana.

Unless Jack blows his brains out.

But to me, it's more than money, more than being a 'collector' the figures are insignificant, I would never pay over $100 for records, I still buy records from new bands now for that and they're worth $300 the next month if you catch bands right.

This record has been on show to many friends, on many gin fuelled nights. And it reminds me of being 19 and listening to jimmy the exploder at my friends college dorm.

I hope other people feel the same warmth for jack and meg.

The dude above me is wrong. But I don't want to hijack the thread. Just wanted to say Jack's music is classic and far from a trend that will simply fall out of fashion. We can pick this up in Jumble Jumble if you like. Sheesh.

Is there a sign up list anywhere to buy this at the $700 price? More than I have ever paid for a record, but I would splurge for this one....
