My local store had at least 7 copies and I went to a different store that had 5. Lots of them out there

Do you own or have you listened to the promo ? Does the new RSD version sound a lot better quality wise ?

Just curious, I thought the promo had issues. I have GBMS coming in the mail but I won't receive it for a few days. Excited to listen to it, hoping it does sound awesome !

I guess that just leaves Icky Thump in 2017 for a variant/colored version unless they do something with UGWNL. The regular/original Icky Thump is a very nice package as it is.

^ I can safely say Bikedo has owned a copy before, I own it now!

Yep, Jet Black Cat in West End. Sad to see everyone around me with a copy. Eh, it doesn't look like it was *that* limited, so eBay will be the best bet in a couple of months.

I think this RSD version of GBMS sounds excellent. I haven't heard the promo, however.

I know a desperate plea here, but has anyone got a spare copy of this that they want to sell for a reasonable cost?

I'm in Adelaide, Australia but happy to pay shipping from OS also.

RSD was not a good day for me.

As with many (or few?), GBMS is not only my top Stripes record but one of my favorite albums in general, so it felt amazing to FINALLY blast it in all its glory on vinyl. The group of songs sound fresh and foreign on wax. Really one of the best listening experiences I've had in a long while.

The altered track listing will take some getting used to (died a little inside when Denial Twist didn't follow Little Ghost). I was also really thrown off by the deliberate gaps between each song. The gaps work for the most part but I sorely miss how The Nurse bleeds into My Doorbell and especially the jarring, whacked out moment when Instinct Blues collapses into Passive Manipulation. To me, that is a defining moment of the record's zany, one-of-a-kind energy.

Like everyone, I'm slightly irked by the revised packaging but I do think it compliments the presentation of the music well for the wax debut. 10 years later and everything looks and sounds a little different from what I remember. Not worse, just different.

Will be doing a promo vs. RSD pressing comparison shortly.

Both my records have the C and D side labels.

OK just a little quick comparison...

Only based on 3 songs from side 2 - as it has a good dynamic range.

Promo - definitely more dynamic. Sound of treble percussion (maracas?) is less pronounced on the new version - possibly as there is audible distortion on the original mix. Generally a more homogenous sound on the new one, which also has more surface noise in quiet passages too.

Now I've previously complained about sound of the distorting (brickwalling in recording process?) maracas on the promo version - so it seems they've tried to conceal it slightly.

Ugly as I am - sounds better on the new version. Seems clearer-sounding.

Denial Twist - seems maracas seem pushed slightly back in the mix again - probably to conceal brickwalling again. Cymbals are more pronounced and have more resonance on the promo.

Speak for yourself (not everyone). I love the new packaging.

To be fair preference on CD sound depends on your playback hardware....

I have a pretty high end CD player and a few turntables to pick from (favourite right now is a DUAL 1218 with a fairly cheap Ortofon pickup - also have a Thorens with a very high end Goldring MC pickup which is great for C&W and classical) but right now am preferring the turntable sound, even if (and I accept this) it may not be as faithful to the original source as digital.

Sometimes you just have to go with your gut......

I came home yesterday, satisfied with my conquest.

I sat on a stool in the 'sweet spot' between my speakers and blew my mind.

All in all, a good RSD.
